Who can protect us from the protectors?
What an accurate and provocative title this is: DOGE as a National Cyberattack from Bruce Schneier. As he writes “What makes this situation unprecedented isn’t just the scope, but also the method of attack. […] In this case, external operators with limited experience and minimal oversight are doing their work in plain sight and under massive public scrutiny: gaining the highest levels of administrative access and making changes to the United States’ most sensitive networks, potentially introducing new security vulnerabilities in the process.”
Two different - but on the same subject - articles caught my attention this weekend. One was [reffering to Meta’s head of AI Yann LeCun](https://www.heise.de/en/news/Meta-s-head-of-AI-Yann-LeCun-does-not-believe-in-the-future-of-generative-AI-10276181.html). “Anyone who claims that we will soon reach AGI is not directly lying, but is wrong or has a very personal understanding of what is considered AGI, says Meta’s AI boss at the FAIR team’s anniversary celebration.” Additionally he does not believe in generative AI and believes we need a new architecture.
The other, named “Not on the Best Path” , is an interview of Gary Marcus one of the best known sceptics of Generative AI, and is definitely worth reading. I really liked his phrase “we’re hitting a period of diminishing returns with respect to LLMs”. Indeed, reading his book Taming Silicon Valley is on my list.
